RHS holds a number of exciting events each year, including RHS’ Ice Cream Social, Traditional Crafts Fair, and Victorian Christmas Open House.

Left to Right: Marjorie Furmick as Mary Lee, Al Stone as General Robert E. Lee, and Michele Cunningham as a Lee daughter at RHS' 2008 Living History and Ice Cream Social event. Campbell House could well have been the venue for social visits from the Lees during the General’s tenure as president of Washington College, and there is anecdotal evidence that he actually sat on the sofa in Campbell House. Visitors who interacted with the General and his ladies were made to feel that they had actually stepped back in time to 1865.

Alexander T. Sloan (Director, George Warren) and his wife, Eleanor (volunteer Michele D. Cunningham) welcome guests to their 1845 Christmas Open House. Each year in December, the Society holds its ever popular, annual Victorian Christmas Open House. The event is free, and open to the public. There are seasonal refreshments, live Christmas music, participatory carol singing, costumed interpreters, and local history exhibits. The program is especially appropriate for children. Campbell House, the Society’s flagship property, is decorated with fresh greens, and a local Christmas tree, by the Lexington Garden Club, in the fashion of the 1840’s, when the house was brand new.
